The Estate Hotel building was built in 1913 as one of Portland’s first concrete frame structures. It originally housed dockworkers and other men in single-occupancy units. Today, the hotel houses persons earning between zero and 30 percent of area median income with multiple barriers to permanent rental housing. The Estate Hotel consists of a 61,952 SF renovation of an historic four-story building with the addition of two stories totaling 15,000 SF to the existing concrete structure. The result increased available housing units in a neighborhood in need of low-income housing; at the same time, it helped preserve the Historic Old Town Chinatown neighborhood.
