The renovation of this two-story warehouse in Portland’s Pearl District is, nationwide, the first restoration of a historic building to reap LEED Gold. WALSH’s proactive efforts led to exemplary performance in building reuse and construction waste management. Using state-of-the-art green practices in all phases of the work, timbers were stripped and re-used. The 100+ year old wood floor was filled and refinished to keep with the character of the building. The existing brick walls and wood columns were blasted using corn cobs and walnuts and refinished to their original beauty. The project also included a full seismic upgrade, a third floor addition and site improvements. The building houses commercial, office and retail businesses that complement the sustainability effort.
