Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) developed this project as part of Seattle’s Housing First program, which provides immediate shelter and services to those in need. The six-story building is 49,559 SF, with 83 studio units. A commercial kitchen, large dining area and lounge occupy the ground floor, next to offices for the 24/7 on-site support staff, and leading to an outdoor courtyard that forms the entrance to the building.

The project faced challenges during construction that included soil remediation and heavy rains, but the WCC team’s diligence in keeping to schedule resulted in an early turnover to the owner two full months ahead of schedule.

WALSH has completed two other projects with DESC. The 1811 Eastlake project was completed in 2005, and Evans House in 2007. Each is widely recognized for delivering quality low-income housing and resident services.
