Derek Johnson, LEED AP
Derek joined WALSH after an extensive career in the U.S. Army. He is a key contributor to Walsh’s green building practices, and holds certifications in LEED and LEED for Homes. As chair of our Sustainability Committee, Derek works to expand the opportunities for WALSH to conserve resources, both in-house and on site.
Derek has worked on several phases of Salishan, a landmark HOPE VI redevelopment in Tacoma which adds affordable homes, parks, and infrastructure over 180 acres. Derek led our efforts in achieving the project’s goal of LEED for Homes Platinum on Phase 7 of Salishan and managed our sustainability efforts on the mixed-use Greenfire Campus project. Greenfire’s solar hot water system produces 70% of domestic hot water in the apartment building. A 10-kilowatt solar PV system reduces purchased electrical energy by as much as 5% annually.
